My Sartorial New Year’s Resolutions - 2024
The ball has dropped, so lets get down to business and not drop the ball.
New year, new Seasonless, baby!! Let’s get down and dirty with my stylish New Year’s Resolutions. First off, how did I do relative to my 2023 resolutions:
Shop from lesser-known, high-quality brands: I bought a lot of clothes from some little-known brands like Uniqlo, Awake NY, and Wrangler lmao
Three watch purchases, max: Not even close. I purchased like 8 G-Shocks in the month of September.
Utilize the power of eBay: I bought a lot of old clothes - mostly jackets and t-shirts, on eBay. I intend to continue to go down the rabbit hole that is eBay for the foreseeable future.
Wear all of my clothes: ehh…
Continue to expand my color story: I wore a lot of black.
2023 Resolutions
Fall Back in Love with Some of My Old Clothes
I’ve hit peak consumption and am no longer in need of new clothes. I can use a black t-shirt refresh, but that would require me to get rid of my frayed black t-shirts, so it doesn’t count. My closet and dresser are both packed to the brim, there are clothes under my bed and I have 4 bins full of t-shirts in my garage. I have a shoe rack full of sneakers, loafers, clogs, and boots. People have different tolerances for how much clothing they can have, and I believe I have reached mine. I need to learn to love my wardrobe again. Perhaps I dig through the archives and throw on something I haven’t worn in months, or I try different combinations of clothes to build new outfits. If I truly don’t want to wear something anymore, I should sell it or donate it, but nothing should just sit in the closet going unloved.
Block Out the Noise of New Clothing and Trends
We are oversaturated in the clothing industry - it’s terrible for our wallets and our planet. Does Kith need to release clothing every Monday? Do we need 100 new Seiko 5s and dozens of G-Shock collaborations every year?
On top of that, there are too many podcasts and influencers attempting to sway you towards specific styles and pieces. If you get too deep into fashion TikTok, you’ll end up buying a whole new wardrobe. Not to mention most influencers are either getting paid by big brands to promote their products or are just massive haters. It’s a lose-lose.
Too much product, too much content. I want to shut out the noise and dress the way I look and feel my best. I suggest everyone do the same! The only fashion content you should be consuming is from the Seasonless dot com.
Buy a Classic Watch
I’m sure you’re tired of me talking about my watch collection by now. I have watches that I love and some that you can argue are modern classics, but I’m yet to own a true “classic” piece. No Cartier Tank, no Omega Speedmaster, no Rolex Datejust, no JLC Reverso, no AP Royal Oak, no Vacheron Patrimony (I say that like I can afford to get any of these, which I obviously can’t). There’s a simplistic elegance to classic timepieces - like they’ve been handed down through the family tree for decades. I have a lot of feelings about Rolex and its customers (Miami-crypto-type dudes absolutely suck), but there’s no denying that there’s nothing more chic than a vintage Rolex from the 1960s or 1970s. Perfect dimensions, vintage case, more subtle on the wrist - it’s just what the doctor ordered. Vintage Rolex > Modern Rolex. It’s also much more affordable.
Fitness to Get into My Fits
Like I said earlier, I have a lot of clothes. The uncomfortable truth is that a lot of clothes that I would wear on the reg a couple of years ago no longer fit me. My biggest battle at the moment is with my own body, and a big part of wearing all of my old clothes is being able to fit in them. I’m on a 30-day detox from sweets and alcohol and I’m trying to be more physically active (though that’s never really been a problem for me). My diet needs to change, plain and simple. I need to sleep more and learn to relax. All of these things will help me look and feel better and ultimately will help me get into more of my old clothes.
Get into more Jewelry
My brother gifted me a cool pair of earrings for Christmas. They’re 14K gold and molded into studs of the angel cupid. I think my jewelry game has been lacking in recent years, and while I am not one to walk the streets with enough jewelry so that you can hear me coming from down the block, I do like subtle gold and silver pieces. I need more pendants and necklaces, rings and earrings. Etsy has been fun to browse. eBay too. Updating my old fake gold earrings with real gold is a good start. Also mixing metals is chic. It comes off as effortless.
Keep having fun with clothes
I don’t care that I’m 30 this year - if the clothing makes me happy, I’ll keep wearing it. 30 is the new 18, anyway.
