The Seasonless Endorsement - July 2025
This month I'm watching movies, wearing clothes and going to baseball stadiums
We have reached the back half of the year. Who would have thought? San Francisco low-key rained today, which is as good a sign as any that we are in the dog days of summer. July has been a busy month for me: several family members have birthdays, I went on a trip to Los Angeles, and I’m going to Denver in two weeks.
There’s much to discuss, so let’s not waste each other’s time:
Supreme x Schott Leather Flight Jacket
My new favorite piece of clothing I own at the moment. I was able to luck into this jacket for free (I’ll never tell how), and it immediately became a mainstay in my outerwear rotation. The genuine leather is buttery smooth against my skin, and the shape of the piece is flattering. The shearling collar is removable, giving the jacket a degree of versatility. If you have the means to purchase a piece of outerwear from Schott, I highly recommend it. They’re of incredible quality and feel great.
Vintage Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise T-Shirt
The Woodward Dream Cruise is a massive annual car show in Detroit, Michigan. I’ve never been. I’ve heard amazing things about it. I’ll probably never go, but the vintage t-shirts from these events are very cool. I purchased the t-shirt above and have shirts from half a dozen other years in my eBay watchlist at the moment. There’s nothing cooler than old cars and diners, am I right?
Desert Hearts (1985) - Donna Deitch
A tender queer love story between a recently divorced academic and a younger, freewheelin’ desert girl. I won’t give too much of the movie because it’s short enough for everyone to watch, but the cinematography is great, the music is timeless, and the whole movie is full of fantastic western style. This has the #SeasonlessStampOfApproval.
Fallen Angels (1995) - Wong Kar-Wai
Wong Kar-Wai originally filmed part of this film to be included in Chungking Express, which came out a year prior, but ultimately decided that the footage was different enough to be the foundation of its own film. Fallen Angels is the story of a hitman wanting to go straight, and his business associate who’s secretly in love with him. It’s classic WKW - dark scenery, cool music, slow-mo camera work, themes of longing and unrequited love, etc. I loved this.
Finally taking Amtrak to Los Angeles
I finally took Amtrak down to Los Angeles. Even though it would have been a lot quicker to just fly, I enjoyed the solitude for an entire day. I saw beautiful scenery, watched movies on an iPad, listened to an Audiobook, read from a physical book, wrote poetry, etc. The only caveat was that the train I was on didn’t have a dining car, so we were stuck with lukewarm soft drinks and bags of chips. Other than that, I thought it was a fun way to travel, and I would like to do a longer one where I get to sleep in a private car.
Black Swans: Stories - Eve Babitz
Eve Babitz is the coolest person to ever live. Slow Days, Fast Company is one of my favorite books ever, and I loved LA Woman and Sex & Rage. Black Swans is later-stage Babitz, when the lore and the charm of Los Angeles had worn off and the city’s darker side reared its ugly head. It feels like a nasty hangover from the greatest party you have ever been to. She talks about affairs and the desperation to be beautiful and relevant. I bought this book at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove in LA, so it’ll always have the memory of a trip attached to it.
Let God Sort Them Out - The Clipse
I love Pusha T, man. He’s one of the most underappreciated rappers ever, and I’m happy he’s now starting to get his flowers after the release of this latest album in collaboration with his brother, Malice. Executive Produced by Pharrell, Let God Sort Them Out is a crispy, braggadocious album about selling drugs and living a luxury lifestyle with heavy moments of introspection. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out about a week and a half ago. I’ll be sitting around the house, and out of the blue I’ll blurt out, “Yellow diamonds look like pee pee.”
Oakland A’s Fitted from Hat Club
I needed a hat when I was in LA a couple of weeks ago. I won’t ever put an LA Dodgers hat on my God-given head, and Hat Club on Melrose understandably wasn’t wearing any San Francisco Giants merchandise, so I was in a bit of a bind. Luckily, I found this A’s hat with the Ricky Henderson patch on the side, and I knew I had to get it. I wore it around LA all day into the wee hours of the morning, and I got a ton of compliments on it, solidifying the fact that I made a good purchase.
Love Island UK Season 12
Everyone watched Love Island USA this year. It was the main topic of conversation in the office, in group chats, on Twitter. I’m a purist, however, and I am loyal to the classics. I think Love Island is best when the cast is mostly British. The accents, the slang - it’s all part of the novelty. I’ve only watched a couple of seasons, but Season 12 is currently airing and I look forward to it every day. These people are messy, toxic, vain, all of the above, and I can’t get enough of it.
Sketches of Spain - Miles Davis
A beautiful jazz record by Miles Davis, released only 10 months after Kind of Blue. Like most Miles Davis records, Sketches of Spain is as cool as it gets—41 minutes of pure ease.
Buying Baseballs at MLB Stadiums
I’ve decided that I want to travel to all of the MLB stadiums. Besides Oracle Park in San Francisco, I’ve been to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, The Oakland Coliseum, and Wrigley Field in Chicago for a Chicago Cubs game. In a couple of weeks, I’m going to see Coors Field in Denver. There are a couple of stadiums that will be hard to get to (i.e. Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, etc), but I feel pretty good about being able to visit a good amount of them. My new thing is buying a baseball with the team logo at every stadium that I go to and writing the date I was there on it in Sharpie on the side of the ball. I’m a big memento guy, and I love looking at the baseballs and thinking of the fond memories I formed at the ballpark.
Peace and Love
